Pike Safety
Our Members are expected to fish in a manner that puts the safety of these fragile predators first and foremost.
Judgement will never be passed, if you are fishing within the rules - if you need help, please ask and a Bailiff or Officer will be despatched to assist.
Minimum Standards
Members & guests targeting the Pike are required to use a mainline with a minimum breaking strain of 15lbs. Single hooks may be barbed but all trebles must be semi-barbless, with the exception of those attached to lures - but it is recommended that those have some of the barbs crushed too, particularly if you are new to Pike fishing.
Rods are never to be left unattended - not even for a minute.
If you are not a competent and confident Pike Angler then must fish with another member who is.
Rest all fish in your net before unhooking.
So, please remember;
- Main line must be 15lb minimum
- Trebles must be semi-barbed
- Never leave rods unattended
- Fish with someone who is a competent Pike angler, if required.
Required Unhooking Equipment
The holy trinity - wire cutters, long nose pliers & forceps |
- Large unhooking mat - minimum size 100cm x 50cm
- Large long nosed pliers
- Large forceps
- Large wire cutters
- Large landing net - minimum size 42" (1065mm)
The above rules apply to lure fishing too - please take care not to be caught out, particularly around landing net and unhooking mat sizes. Fishing with lures does not mean you will only catch the smaller fish - make sure you are fully prepared to unhook the larger Pike.
