Habitat Improvement Project - Phase1: Siltex

Anyone who knows the Lagoon well will tell you it is a very silty water, so in an effort to combat that we have invested part of our recently awarded grant in a fine chalk based treatment called Siltex.

"SILTEX is used as an inexpensive way of reducing organic silt and improving water quality in ponds, lakes and waterways. SILTEX is environmentally friendly, harmless to plants, fish and all other water inhabitants, and as it recycles the organic materials (silt), it is a great benefit to the water body ecosystem. Siltex will also stimulate the water-body food chain which will help to increase biodiversity"  essentialponds.

It took two days of hard labour to treat the lagoon.  Thanks goes out to Alan, Michael, Mick, Brendan & Holly for their efforts.

The work, however, is not over - infact it has only just begun as we still have the new inlet pipe, floating islands and second application of Siltex (in the Autumn) to come.
